How secure are your times tables, really?

Many people "know" their times tables but still slow down under pressure because recall isn't fully automatic. There is a difference between working it out and knowing the answer instantaneously. Those small hesitations add up — and more importantly, they pull attention and working memory away from actual problem-solving.

A timed test makes that distinction visible. If the answers come easily inside 60 seconds, recall is automatic. The clock creates pressure and makes hesitation transparent.

How the test works

The timer starts with the first question and counts down from 60 seconds. Answer as many multiplication facts as you can before time runs out — questions are drawn from the full 0×0 to 12×12 range, in random order.

When the timer hits zero, you see your score and any facts you got wrong. There is an option to share your score.

What your score tells you

The number of correct answers in 60 seconds is a direct measure of speed and fluency. A high score means the facts are genuinely automatic — you are not calculating, you are remembering. A lower score, or a cluster of wrong answers, shows that more practice is needed.

The missed-facts list shows exactly what still needs work.

Using it as a benchmark

Because the format is fixed — always 60 seconds, always the full 0–12 grid — your score is comparable across attempts. Take it regularly to watch the number climb as recall becomes faster and more automatic. No sign-up required, but you can create a free account if you want to save your scores.
